DBT skills training group - Online

This group is 24 sessions long, run in modules each of 7-9 sessions in length with breaks between modules.

This is a comprehensive DBT skills training group covering the core modules of mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation and interpersonal effectiveness. The group follows the DBT skills training manual updated in 2015 by Marsha Linehan.

This group is suitable for people who want to build skills to manage stressful situations and difficult emotions and build assertiveness, boundaries and people skills.
This group is suitable for people with diagnoses of BPD or complex trauma or struggles with emotion regulation. It may be advisable that you have your own individual therapist who you see regularly. An intake phone call is needed to assess whether this group will be suitable for your needs and to ensure you will be supported during the group. The group will be run in three modules with one or two weeks break in between each section. Each module will start with core mindfulness skills and then continue with either distress tolerance, emotion regulation or interpersonal effectiveness skills. It is possible to sign up for one module at a time, for example the emotion regulation module, or for all three sections.

*Please note this group is not the entire DBT treatment, full DBT treatment involves weekly therapy, weekly group attendance and seeing a DBT therapist who has access to a consult group. This group could fulfill the group component of comprehensive DBT, however, please talk to your individual therapist about whether it is suitable for you.

DBT skills training groups are learning groups not support groups. Each group follows a specific format. Subsequent groups start with 5 minutes of mindfulness, 20-30 minutes of reviewing participants practice of their skills between sessions, a 5-10 minute break and then 35 minutes teaching new skills, 5 minutes planning practice for the week and five minutes to wind down.
